hi, whats the rule of thumb for determining the poropeller size for scale boats?

If it looks right it probably is.
Or you can get size from a drawing of a similar ship.

Bob is right, but there are other factors involved. Are you striving for scale looks - in that case just scale the prop from the drawing/specification of the prototype. However, scale performance throws up more problems, with pitch and motor speed coming into the equation. Scale speed is a black art.
