« on: May 02, 2006, 09:08:23 pm »

After looking all over the net I can't make my mind up which rtr kit to buy. Anyone got a recommendation for a mono that is a good quality and goes quick. It's hard to tell by the lousy photos you get !! marko

The SWAMBC run a racing class for RTR boats and according to Allan from Astec, the one to beat is the DPI Crackerbox from Pandan Models.

Hi Marko

I run a DPI Crackerbox and it's a great model to sail, seems very quick to me without causing too much noise etc.

I got mine from Pandan Models and I ordered it without the mechanical speed controller and fitted an electronic ESC, to give a bit better control. Pandan were very helpful and only took a week or so from order to delivery. Very good value also for a ready built model.

Best of luck

Yup - I run the Electric 27 inch under various names - yes cheap and cheerful - but for the price very hard to be beaten and IF you spend a little time changing motors and batteries you can modify for even more speed.

Also there is a review of a black version in this months Marine Modelling Magazine too

Yes I have one of the EP type boat and I have found that the green props that come with them are a lot better than the black ones that come in the windrush type,
I also put 480 motors in and use 3600 packs goes well and lasts well...

i have 2 of the victory/ ep racing RTR boats cant fault them for a first fast electric.

i have changed the motors in one of my boats so now it runs 2x 500 race motors, 9.6volt 3600mah battery pack, trim tabs plus i have put a pair of rudders on the back for flat out steering.

to say the least it goes very well indeed im more then impressed with it

Watch out for the Ebay style RTR boats. Most are fitted with very non-selective receivers. If there are any boats operating within the same RC band (does not need to be the same channel) the boat will go about 10ft away from the bank and then stop. If you are planning to run your boat at a popular boating lake this can be a real problem. Yesterday, I saw one of the red twin twin screw hydros and the white bat boat suffer the same fault at Southend.

Guys
How hard is it to put a Rx (27/40) into one of these boats so that you can use different frequencies on the pond?

Probably not quite the speed he's after but a very interesting modification job.

I hope your poor daughter will grow into a more proportional size -

She measures 550 x 200 x 390mm."
