Nothing stupid about the question. :-)
If you haven't come across the word, how will you know what it is?
It's a Motor Torpedo Boat. 96ft long and capable of speeds of 60 knots+ :o :o
Designed and manufactured by Vosper Thorneycroft in the 50's/60's
Perkasa is the name given to it when it was bought and used by the Malaysain navy.

The Perkasa were designed and built for the British Admiralty in 1954-59
they had three Rolls Royce Marine Proteus gas turbines as their main power plant,
driving through reverse/reduction vee-drive gearboxes to fully-cavitating propellers.
They were the first warships in the world to be fitted with these engines,
they have maximum speed between 50 and 60 knots. Most have diesel auxiliary engines for
cruising and manoeuvring. They are hard-chine, planing boats, 96 ft. in length. The
armament generally consists of two 40 mm L.60 Bofors guns and four 21-in
torpedoes carried in side-launching chutes.

No the Gays were much earlier around 1952 and forerunners of the Dark class.  The 2 Brave class were from the same design as the Perkasa with variations and there were also Greek Danish and German versions of the Brave/Perkasa and Ferocity.  The Cutlass, Scimitar and Sabre Fast Training Boats were further developments but on a smaller scale and with different engine arrangments.  There is a lot more to it than that simplified response but thats about it in a nutshell.
