Veron Vosper RTTL
« on: March 06, 2007, 07:28:48 pm »

Hi All

Thought I would show you my resoration project. It's a Veron RTTL, I've wanted one of these for some time as I remember seeing one when I used to sail a small pond yacht. That was back in 1964 at the Gorlestone Yacht Pond.

I do need some advice on a suitable size motor, prop etc. So any help advice much appriciated.
This is my first wooden boat for more years than I can remember   :-\ :-\

Hi Richard
Nice choice of boat. Mind the plan indicates RAF 2749, whereas your boat could only have been 2751, 2752, 2753, 2754 or 2755. The difference is the earlier boats (the RTTL MK1A's e.g. 2749) did not have slab-sided wheelhouses, and later boats (the RTTL MK2's; 2756 onwards) were built with raised engine room covers. The boat you have (designated an RTTL MK1B) would have had the deck-level engine room covers (as per your boat)when built, they were later converted to the raised type when the twin Rolls-Royce Sea Griffon engines were installed replacing the triple Napier Sea-Lion installations. Surviving boats of the type you have are 2751 (now Phoenix) and 2753 (now Flywood).
Trust this is useful.
Regards,
Christian.

Hi Richard,

I have still got the one i made with my dad when i was a boy!

We ran it with a small 500 motor, 7.4 volts and a plastic 2 blade prop. With the single engine and the keel on the Veron kit if you fit too big a motor there is terrible torque roll.

If you want a copy of the original plans, PM me your address and i can send you some?

Regards

Hi Simon

Thanks for the plans offer but in our recently completed house move the RTTL and my completed Victoria yacht both got squashed.

So I have nothing left, now just looking for another one. I used to have one years ago and sailed it on the pond at Gorleston on Sea.

Thanks again

Hi Richard,

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Mine are up for sale, a 1/24th and a 1/12th?
