Making a rudder and shaft

Hi Guys, i know roughly how to make the rudder but dont know how you do the rudder shaft to make it turn but without leaking water?

Its normal practice to bring the outer shaft as high as possible above the waterline. The inner shaft will be higher. A little waterproof grease and a snug fitting inner shaft helps. This arrangement works ok on my
boats. John.

Ok guys got a rough idea of how to make one ill give it a go. seems like aslong as the tubes etc fit tight and use some grease water shouldnt get in. ill give it a shot

Water won't get in as long as the outer tube terminates above the waterline..
