Yes I was reading that, good on his crew too I always thought the RNLI was there to save people didn't realise they had to get permission to launch before saving someone
yes he might have broken a rule but surely if the boat was being used for a rescue and not misused then surely he should be reinstated

Best to ascertain the actual facts before rushing to judgement I think.

Don't necessarily believe what you read in the press.

Was it a matter of insurance, if the launch is not authorised would that have made their insurance invalid and the RNLI open to claims against them.

This is the third station disbandment in recent times - Cleethorpes, New Brighton and now Jersey.  Tens of decades with no emergency closures and suddenly three come along together, something is seriously wrong.

In each case the management's methodology is allegedly the same..... https://www.facebook.com/groups/1229801430376308/permalink/1231022953587489/

Stations are brought back on service by bringing qualified crew from elsewhere and putting them up in hotels, but of course they do not have any local knowledge and experience.

So accidents happen....   http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/new-brighton-lifeboat-tractor-left-12179866

There will be problems with coxswains, one in north Wales was assigned other duties away from his station and there was no crew resignations.

Mass resignation invariably means that the crews see an injustice being done.  Why else would such selfless people walk away from what is such a large part of their life ?

Cleethorpes is back up and running with a local crew and Launch Authority.
Just been named the busiest station on the North East coast last year.

I believe each station has a Lifeboat Operations Manager and that it is their responsibility (or that of their deputy) to authorise launches. It appears that the coxswain may have launched the boat on his own authority and was pulled up for it and things escalated from there. His crew may well stand behind him out of loyalty but that doesn't necessarily make their actions right. Without knowing the exact circumstances and maybe any previous history I don't think it is right to come down on one side or the other. The RNLI is very media savvy and would not have let the situation develop as it has without feeling they had good reason to do so.

Hopefully the situation will be resolved when things have cooled down a bit.

Google and Facebook duped in huge 'scam'

Google and Facebook have confirmed that they fell victim to an alleged $100m (£77m) scam.
In March, it was reported that a Lithuanian man had been charged over an email phishing attack against "two US-based internet companies" who were not named at the time.
They had allegedly been tricked into wiring more than $100m to the alleged scammer's bank accounts.
On 27 April, Fortune reported that the two victims were Facebook and Google.
The man accused of being behind the scam, Evaldas Rimasauskas, 48, allegedly posed as an Asia-based manufacturer and deceived the companies from at least 2013 until 2015.

Wow , think he got more off them than our own tax people !!..
Martin , you might want to send them a link to the Forum so they can read about scams  {-) {-) {-)

I have been following this saga, which is still unresolved. As may already be known, the Lifeboat Operations Manager also resigned, and his full scathing letter of resignation can be read here. You don't need a Facebook account to view this.

I thought that he had already departed.

He was a Blue Peter stalwart before my time but he did crop up on TV from time to time. RIP.

Very sad.
Another of my boyhood heroes gone  :((
I loved his adventurous 'have a go' attitude and down to earth presenting style.
RIP John Noakes.

I'm posting this and don't care what anyone says!

BBC:
Former Blue Peter presenter John Noakes dies at 83
         http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40083025

In the 60's & 70's, John Noakes was the kind of man that most boys wanted to grow up and be like.
RIP John, you gave us many, many hours of inspiration, education & wholesome entertainment.

I don't think anyone will mind you posting this mans sad passing, for he was probably one of the most influential presenters for young people to look up to and aspire too, that I could imagine.

he was a legend in his own lifetime and made tea times good to look forward too.

I think he was, and probably always will be the best presenter that not only Blue Peter had, but the BBC as a whole, bar none.

you gave a lot of young kids a great deal of pleasure Noaksie, and long may you be remembered.
