Looks like it's over, 7 suspects detained..

Seven suspects have been detained on board a tanker situated off the Isle of Wight.

UK special forces were involved in dealing with the incident on board the crude oil tanker, which had a number of stowaways on board.

The operation on board the Liberian-registered Nave Andromeda involved six helicopters and a Special Boat Service team, the BBC understands.

There are pictures of Chinooks deploying RIBs close to the tanker. presumably crewed by SBS from Poole. An impressive response by the military.

I would imagine that the authorities were concerned about the tanker running aground and causing a catastrophic fuel spill. The ship was only 6 miles off Bembridge Ledge with its dangerous rocky reefs.

The more dangerous issue if they were terrorist would have been if it had berthed at ExxonMobil Refinery’s jetty.

I do know that the SBS have and do train at boarding ships as they berth.

Our Australian Defence Forces helped the civilian teams in many areas around Oz and did a fantastic job. They should have been called in earlier. One even stuck that horrid stick up my nose and I recon that goes beyond the call of duty.

Seems they have no 'Moorgate control'. The tube has this- systems put in place after the Moorgate tragedy to prevent an out of control train entering a terminus at at high speed. This achieved by limiting the power available to the train,a and adding additional braking devices should a train still be entering too fast.

Apparently they do according to a discussion on another forum but it wasn't in operation on this occasion as the train was empty and simply being parked under manual control. There was only the driver on board.
