OK, it wasn't a detailed engineering analysis of how a submarine is designed and built, but I found it interesting to see how the individual segments were fitted out separately then brought together and welded. Also, the sense of so much being crammed into a tiny space was clear, and the overall complexity of the machine was evident. Of course, all the really interesting stuff is classified, so any techie watching is going to feel short changed. And if you're a submariner it's easy to scoff, but as 99.9% of the population aren't, I think it was pitched at the right sort of level. (And I doubt the admiral was as complacent in private about those years' delay!)

Ian's comment brought to mind our local Architect where I grew up who left the stairs off a 3 storey building (no lift either!) and added a large window to a strongroom that had a bank vault door................
From a Cambridge academic I received the comment that the world is definitely dumbing down ( pass rate here for the equivalent of O levels is 30% ! ) and TV is now aimed at 11 to 12 year old level - which might explain the following of a girl engineer and the fascination of chips............

No sensible person would disagree with the need to improve insulation among many other desirable actions to combat global warming but these zealots are just targeting the wrong people and causing unnecessary personal suffering and grief.

Making your fellow citizen's life hell is no way to attract converts to your cause. It just stirs up antagonism to the methods employed. Apparently the leading light of the movement hasn't yet got around to insulating his own loft. If these people have so much time on their hands then they are very welcome to come round and top up my insulation which is a bit difficult given the very limited headroom under my sloping roof!

Hi Baldrick, they were quietly disposed of (at a loss) as they could not legally be used. Still it wasn't his money so no problem.

Oh Poof , I'm sure there would not have been a problem with using them to blast off those who had illegally superglued themselves to the road.(instead of pussyfooting around with them).

Yes, but no points for guessing who sold them. Still, the snow ploughs are still available and an "Autumn" testing should make sure they're OK for winter use.

We saw a 2 minute video on Australian television on the vessel [Sir David A] including the Moon Pool.....however without any detail

Just thinking about it, there must be many +/- potential currents running around such a vessel just waiting and wanting to commence corrosion

So are these structures we see in the image from Joe made from galvanized steel with impressed current protection or from stainless angle & channel irons?
