Hello,

Just seen this announcement on ebay, Wonder how much this will affect things like Giant Cod etc..

Recently the Hong Kong Post announced that all items posted by air are now subject to x-ray screening for regulated materials. This additional screening may cause delayed shipment due to no fault of the seller, so if you purchased an item from a seller in Hong Kong, please allow extra time for delivery - at least a week more than the seller’s stated delivery time.
Also note that items containing the regulated materials are being returned directly to sellers and not delivered to the buyer. These items may include:
· Items with lithium batteries such as video cameras, walkie talkies/2-way radios, GPS devices, radio-controlled toys, Bluetooth headsets, smartphones/mobiles, laptop computers, shavers, power drills, tablets and portable DVD players
· Liquid beauty products, including fragrances, colognes, lotions, and toner
· Items with “eliquids” such as electronic cigarettes and lighters

It looks like the issue is Li batteries. As long as your item does not have Li or liquids in them, there will only be a delay.
I should imagine that initially the HKPO will be busy returning lots of items to sellers. But the market will soon get into line with the new regs and the speed of the operators/scanning will improve. I would assume that the length of delays will reduce quickly.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24406187
Think it'll be a non starter , too many 'auld asses' have past on without handing down their skill's , the same thing's happened in the normal shipyards , closed them all down ,sacked everyone & then start wingeing about 'the lack of skill's' . . . with politicians like ours you dont need enemies , anyone see the Quest prog' about the triple E ship build ? "we put them together in 37 weeks . . . COME ON  %%  if you believe that your SIMPLE  {:-{  any ship has "lead time" which can be up to 2 years . . . they might ASSEMBLE the hull in 37 weeks from block sections , BUT how long's it taken to construct the blocks ? This is a yankee fad to put deadlines on everything . . .

It's another of those DUKW's.................same as those that have been stopped from operating in Liverpool.

Isn't it about time these old things were consigned to classic car and truck rallies and not for ferrying paying customers around..........at this age they are a lethal accident just waiting to happen.

might look nice and nostalgic but they are b***** death traps. >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

Are they DUKW craft from WWII?
FWIW, our 'Harbour Hoppers' are U.S war-surplus machines from their ill-advised Vietnam misadventure.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...."build time of 42 day"...this may be calendar wise ...a time line....but there were many contributing factors
1. prefabricated hull plates for welding :o
2. steam engines waiting on the dockside for installation :-))
3. everything else waiting on the dockside for installation :D
If we think of the T Model Ford as being the first production line product .....think again of the US built Liberty ships as the first marine version of a production line......
Don't despair Bellay........some model ships take 20 years to build............  :embarrassed: Derek

Quote from the web page

Quote
The boat was made by workers in the famous boat builder’s yard, in Gosport in about 1937.

I am assuming that this is what they call an 'architect's model'. These architects models were originally built to show the client what they will be getting, before the full scale ship is built. They are getting rarer now and usually fetch a lot of money. The workmanship is always very high.

Royal Navy aircraft carrier costs 'to double'

It seems that our under-construction aircaft carriers are set to double in cost over orginal contract according the BBC News report,  and that does not include any aircaft

But it won't cost millions to lay a few fibre optic cables between London and Leeds. Saves a lot of MP's claiming fuel expenses.
