I think you need to be a bit cautious when commenting on a matter which is sub judice whatever your private opinions may be as technically it could affect his right to a fair trial. People have come badly unstuck on Twitter when commenting on pending legal proceedings.

Let the law take its course and then comment.

Very wise counsel, Colin. People have been prosecuted for making similar comments.

Indeed.  A fair trial before a fair keelhaulin'
One of those occasions where everybody can be right to a degree.  But with the right to homicidal stupidity comes the duty of responsibility.  And the duty of recompensing everybody whose life was interrupted by said irresponsible stupidity.  If thats what the powers that be determine what it was.

PS  Nothing to do with the news, but I'm just watching the original "The Plank" (Eric Sykes, Tommy Cooper, Jimmy Edwards).  Possibly the funniest bit of cinematography ever?  Its just unfortunate that the comic observations of reality are taken to be the accepted norm by the.......errr......less useful members of society.

Just received this in an email. Any one know anything more.

Battle stations! Navy scrambles destroyer to challenge Russian warship off British coast (but it takes 24 hours to make 600-mile journey from Portsmouth base - was Putin testing our response time?)
Russian vessel detected 30 miles away from Scotland last night
Only ship available to respond was on south coast of England
Tensions heightened when aerial photos showed ship full of missiles

"Visit Britain" (funded by the taxpayer - as in you and me >:-o )  have apparently issued guidelines for hoteliers so that they don't inadvertantly upset foreign visitors ........ There is a long list of do's and dont's. Here are just two:

DO: Deal promptly with any complaint from German or Austrian tourists, who can be 'straightforward and demanding' to the point of 'seeming rude and aggressive'.

DON'T: Exchange a smile or make eye contact with anyone from France who you do not know.

..........and the absolute best (and I pay for this?)....

"They are also told they should not poke fun at Indian accents." ........... The Lone Ranger would have had a field day with that one.

New's

Justice dismisses any external responsibility at this stage of the investigation, in the skiing accident that plunged Michael Schumacher in a coma on Dec. 29 , when his head violently hit a rock while skiing off-piste in Meribel ( Savoie) .

Michael Schumacher " deliberately chose to go" off track in an area located between a red and a blue track track , said Wednesday the prosecutor Albertville , Patrick Quincy, during a press conference.

According to the magistrate, the Formula 1 champion flying at a distance of between 3 and 6 meters from the edge of the marked practicing " a large oar " track when his skis flush a rock that has reduced to 8 meters track .

To the magistrate, the runway lighting standards " have been met ," which seems to exclude the main complaint may be made to the operator station . " The issue of " fact track " ," legal argument that would make this section a "fake off track " likely to mislead the German champion in error, be still " raised , discussed ," continued Mr. Quincy .

This notion could be decisive in a possible trial on payment of damages.

According captured by the GoPro camera he had attached to his helmet images, the sevenfold champion of Formula 1 was operating a " look quite normal on this type of terrain for experienced skiers " , linking small corners to control its rate, further explained Lieutenant Colonel Benedict Vinnemann , commander of the research section of Savoy .

The prosecutor said he did not have knowledge of filmed by a German steward 35 who told the German magazine Der Spiegel that Schumacher then skied " to a maximum speed of 20 km / h " images. Anyway , speed is "not a particularly important factor for us ," said Mr. Quincy .

No complaints at this stage

Driver behavior would indeed be considered in a case if the responsibility of the station for default markup was committed , to see if a " negligence " could clear customs operator in whole or in part .

The two minutes of film recovered from a camera mounted on the helmet of the driver, "we do not see help anyone ," said the prosecutor. Surrounding Schumacher said he had turned to help a loved one.

Not world shattering, but a suspicious device was found washed up on the shore at St Annes on Sunday.  It was duly identified as a RN flare, and duly sorted.  The BBC reported it on their news site, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-25711129
along with a picture.  RN spokeperson? No.  A device? No.  A picture of the public bog building in the corner of one of the car parks on the prom?  Yes, if memory serves me right.  The caption to the picture was "The giant flare was one used in exercise sea mines by the Royal Navy", so, was it a stealth flare, hiding in the foreground, or was it a REALLY giant flare, cunningly disguised as said building?
