Other health-related items:

Most, if not all, jurisdictions in North America have some sort of 'Good Samaritan' laws to protect persons attempting to help accident victims, to shield them from lawsuits should the accident victims die.

In Canada, there has been a campaign to have portable defibrillators made available at all golf courses, in case any of the old golfers should suffer a heart attack during a round.  So much for the old 'Hit the ball and drag Charley' joke.

Scotland is in a terrible state due to the weather and high winds. It will take more than gaffer tape. The Forth Road Bridge was scary on a motorbike even in summertime due to road movement......... a very twitchy front wheel even at quite moderate speed.

Eagle had a bakery so probably Ark as well
Why say it's the first ship with a bakery?

Yes, Eagle had a Bakery and so did Ark (The proper Carrier Ark that is.) How else do you produce enough bread and rolls for 2500 men?

For those MBM Members here who partake in ancient maritime studies will know that the earlier Ark also had a bakery......yes one of Noahs crew was the baker  O0

'Noah put food on the ark for the animals and his family. He fed many of the animals with the milk from other animals, their eggs and so forth. Don't be so narrow minded as to think he was too stupid to put enough food on the ark!

You can figure ...he [Noah] had wheat, thus bread, probably milk from certain animals, and eggs to eat from the birds'
.

So whilst I find no reference to it, it is possible that the now famous Garlic bread & Red wine breakfast was first served upon the Ark  {-)

However certainly that BBC journalist needs to brush up on his maritime cooking history   ..... Derek

Reading between the lines it suggests that the generating capacity is insufficient for peak loadings. Switch to phasers and the lights go out!

There are cruise ships which seem to suffer from similar problems although I think in that case it is more to do with load balancing rather than overall capacity.

I suppose building warships to cruise ship standards makes sense
to the bean counters to whom crossing the Thames is a voyage too far.

As a retired Naval Officer I too have a strong suspicion that the bean counters come into it somewhere. 'Give them that one, it's cheaper and they won't know the difference'. Let us not forget that it was the last government who primarily designed them, costed them and signed them off.

They certainly signed off the order to build but politicians don't cost them and they certainly don't design them. You can accuse politicians of holding the purse strings but that's about it.

I watched a channel the other night PBS ,not seen it before it just happened to be about building HMS. Daring ,it might have been on another channel at sometime or other .  It lost power to the weapons system when it was on sea trials and the first war game action . The chief engineer talked about the gas turbines driving the generator to drive the motors ,he said the generate enough power for a town the size of Coventry ,it appears that it's been in bother since day one . The full story might appear under the 30 year rule.
