1st camera Umpire :police: ......2nd backup camera Umpire  8) .....as DM says it's just not cricket  <*<

We have let technology overrule the true role of the Umpire  :-)) ......[parents looking on at all sports screaming 'it was out', 'over the line' or 'on the ground'......they even berate the Umpires call]....[50 years ago..we were taught to never question the decision made by the Umpire]

The 3rd camera <*< saw Warner & Smith playing with a bit of yellow tape........[this has been going on for :o 200 years before these cameras were introduced]

Bring back the original single Umpire....

One umpire at school, otherwise, to quote the internet -
Quote
On the field of play, there are two umpires officiating a match. One umpire stands behind the stumps at the bowler's end of the pitch, while the other umpire stands at square leg. At international level there is also a third umpire on the sidelines and a match referee.

And now a recording.

Sad news:  Harland and Wolff going into administration

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-49165896

The shipyard was founded in 1861 by Yorkshireman Edward Harland and a German, Gustav Wolff.
However, the last ship built there was the MOD ferry Anvil Point in 2003.
The writing has been on the wall for sixteen years.

Evening Bob..........having worked shore side in & on the reported brilliant examples of H&W builds in the 70'& 80's  ok2  your Government subsidies just delayed the inevitable   <*<

Maybe a lot of nostalgia ......but less than 2nd Class builds  >>:-( compared to other yards in Europe or emerging Japan..........& yes before Korean ship building was born.........

The news items I've watched lately, regarding H&W, seem to refer to the yard as the one that built the Titanic.
What they fail to mention is the following :-

During the second World War, Harland & Wolff completed 139 naval vessels, including 6 aircraft carriers, 2 cruisers, 47 corvette, 9 frigates and 29 mine sweepers as well as 132 merchant ships. The company's repair facilities (at various other yards) carried out repairs to almost 22,300 ships.
Since the war, the company also built some famous ships, including HMS Eagle, Southern Cross, SS Canberra and the Shell tanker Myriad, which was the first 'supertanker' to be built in Britain.

I extracted the above info from "Shipping - today & yesterday" magazine  :-))

Ray.

They have now been able to send a small remote camera into the wreck of HMS Terror and a lot of it is still intact.

...they didn't have time to pull the plugs I think.  Actually I was eading some titanic articles recently and I didn't realise they had raised a section?

Those franklin vids look amazing.  I wished we had such clear diver cam and ROV cam footage to work with when I worked offshore!

I was also randomly looking at random youtube stuff about the pyramids (so not in the news).  They sent crawler robots up little 6" shafts, and when they found the shaft closed by an obvously placed miniature door (with little metal handles), they developed a robot to drill and look inside.  Then they found another door further up inside, and few years later sent another robot up with another telescopic drill to look further!  Really impressive 200' up a vertical shaft (and really quite creepy).

so if they were to raise the baths up to the surface as she starts to finally fall apart and save them for posterity, they will need to pull the plugs to let the water out and lighten the load  %)

The carrier HMS Prince of Wales is forecast to leave Rosyth on Friday or Saturday
My dilemma is I’m heading north from Glenrothes tomorrow.
Currently I’m only 20 minutes from the coast of Kirkcaldy where the view would be excellent
Should I stay or should I go now  {:-{
I think I may have to return from Stonehaven when the day is confirmed

Well true, I could also go back to my old workplace next week to see her.......

"After more than 28 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy, HMAS Melbourne will decommission at Garden Island, Fleet Base East on Saturday, 26 October 2019"

HMAS Melbourne 05, was assembled & built in Melbourne [Victoria] during mt time at G I in Sydney  [NSW] so I did not get the chance to board her

I did however look after all of her earlier FFG sister vessels GMLS13 missile launcher and Mk75 gunmount.....and CWIS systems

Her WEB page displays an absolutely thrilling memory image [photographed from her bridge] of a GMLS 13 Standard Missile being fired <*<
This missile is listed as a 'Standard Missile 2' , I question the accuracy of the text, as I believe the missile is actually a TSAM 8)

I am unsure of the fate for her hull.......[the Government could sell her "as is" it to an undisclosed %) Asian bidder]
