All these old wrecks are gradually dissolving into the sea. There seems to come a point when the process starts accelerating. For example, the stern of the battlecruiser Invincible was substantially intact when surveyed in 1991 after 75 years but subsequent inspections have shown that it is now in a state of much greater collapse. Similarly, the more recent expeditions to the Titanic wreck have also reported that the ship is rapidly deteriorating and falling in on itself. The same effect must be expected of the Richard Montgomery in the next few years.

The suggestion on the street is that they contracted Del Boy to handle the UK end of the purchase contract

Used to be a something hedron shaped pack containing orange flavoured liquid. Local shop used to freeze them. Yummy.

...All I can say without breaching various rules is I didn't believe you until I checked BBC news and there is some kind of poetic justice about that!  I can think of no finer tribute at the moment!  Sums it all up really.

One of our grand daughters went to the Goldcoast last Thursday for a conference. At least she did not get her feet wet as she was on the 42nd. floor of the hotel.  Whether she can get home is another matter as GC airport was flooded yesterday

Thank you for asking, I’m still here, high and dry, well above any floodwaters, unlike many who have lost everything. Our farm is only 8km from the centre of Lismore, population 45000 plus, but we are on a hill, much higher than the city itself. The flood which is currently engulfing the town is 2 metres higher than the previous record set in 1974. By my reckoning, that would mean around 4 metres of water in the CBD, almost unimaginable. The word “catastrophic” is often over used, but I can’t think of a better word to describe the situation in Lismore right now.

Roads all around us are cut, but we have enough food to keep us going for a week or more, by which time we should be able to get out. The entire shopping precinct is inundated, although there are three supermarkets on the plateau to the east, but I’m hearing that all three have been stripped bare. Until roads are open, and trucks can get through from Brisbane, which itself is suffering flooding, shelves will remain bare. Having seen first hand what floods can do, many times, it is going to take a very long time for the CBD to be cleaned, and shops to reopen.

While we are right for food and medications for a while, we have had no power for the last 36 hours, and there’s no indication when it may be restored - definitely not until water levels drop to a point where damage assessment can be made, and repairs carried out. Our caravan has a decent size gas powered refrigerator in it, and we can charge iPads, phones, etc from the caravan batteries, which themselves are connected to a solar panel. We also have a 12v TV in it so we can keep up to date with the outside world.

We have received between 600 and 700 mm of rain in less than a week, we’re not sure, as the gauge has overflowed twice, and it holds 270 mm. Other areas have had more, in fact, my sister, who lives about 90 km North west of Brisbane recorded 1200 mm in the same period.

While we are inconvenienced, many others have lost everything, so we’re not complaining. It would be good to have power restored though, as I’m relying on my phone for an internet connection  :-)

Delighted you and your loved ones are all well. Hopefully things should improve over the coming days. You are in our thoughts at what must be a worrying and difficult time. Try to keep us posted.

Will do Barry.
Colin mentioned the flooding in Queensland, it started up there causing havoc in Gympie and Maryborough, then moved down to Brisbane and the Gold Coast. It crossed the border into NSW, flooding first Murwillumbah, then Lismore and surrounding towns an villages. It’s still moving down the east coast towards Sydney, dumping vast quantities of rain as it goes.

On a positive note, it’s a nice sunny evening here now.

Last night a security risk assessment analyst put a picture of a central European county up and showed arrows of movements  ;) %) , I suddenly had a tune running through my head of the dads army theme tune - though I had to remember to change the name of the protagonist  :P :P

Peter, really glad to hear you, Bev and the family are all OK. The reports here give and indication of just how bad things are. Parts of the UK have been having a pretty bad time floodwise too.

Yesterday, as we were driving back from the Council Tip at Sizewell, I couldn't help but think of Tom Lehrer and this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frAEmhqdLFs
