Possibly another stupid question

Not knowing much about the dark arts of radio control/batteries etc...

I have installed a pair of Powertech RC3000 8.4v 3000 Mah NiMH batteries in my Trent lifeboat.  Having just charged them I thought I'd pop the tester on them and check the voltage - which came out as nearly 10 volts.

Is this normal?

The batteries were bought online, advertised as 8.4v but it wasn't written on them. I scrawled it on with magic marker so that I'd know in future.
There seem to be 7 cells in each battery pack.

Spook, I think you'll find this is perfectly normal, and if you check the voltage again an hour or so after charging you'll find that it wiil have dropped a little.

Spook

Well observed!  1.2 Volts per cell is the nominal voltage, but actually it varies from about 1V (fully discharged) to well over 1.2V, and in fact it is generally this rise in voltage that the chargers use to detect when the battery is fully charged
[before anyone says - yes, it is often the rate of fall of voltage, not the absolute level which stops the charge]

So healthy batteries - enjoy :}

Thanks chaps - I didn't want to blow the motors with overpowered batteries.  :-))
