Robbe Valdivia - cutting masts and spars
« on: July 26, 2011, 08:24:39 pm »

The instructions refer to GRP but tapered steel is provided for the masts and spars. The outside diameters (ODs) don't quite match the ODs noted in the instructions.  I presume I cut the tubing at various points to get as close to the stated ODs as possible? If so, there will be some lengths left over.  Advise please.
  Many thanks.

If in any doubt, don't cut.

The lengths are far more important than the diameters. The lengths do need to be correct, other wise sails and other things won't fit.
In most sailing models the diameter is often a scale approximation of the original.

I assume you have googled for other Valdivia builds. I think sparks studios may have done a Valdivia, you could try an email to him.

Patmat is very nice, and has built a number of beautiful models, so if you emailed him, I'm sure he could help you.
