There are still quite a lot of "model/Toy" shops out there, maybe not as many as there was 20 years ago; but only a very few stock model boat bits.

You have missed one out one of the best for stock and helpfullness - Scoonie Hobbies in Kirkcaldy in Scotland. Andy, Steve and Tony are the most helpfull people you could ever meet. I bow to their collective knowledge.
Regards to all.
Graham
PS
Eastbourne has a toy shop called Model Zone and of course the best of the best Hunter Systems!!!!! - ok so I am blowing my own trumpet.

There is a good radio control model shop for planes boats and cars called Mick Ward models in Langley Mill near Nottingham, I have found him very helpful and carries a lot of stock for a small shop.

We have got two down here,Dockyard model shop at Chatam, and one at Ramsgate.
The one in Chatam is the better one.

John
There are 2 more in Kent that I know of. First is at Bybrook Barn, a big Garden and Craft Centre on the A28 just outside Ashford and the other is just off the M20, at Junction 7 or 8. Called the Nutwood Garden Centre, mostly cars and planes, but usefull RC and Accesseroies.

Paisley Model Centre Arklestone Rd. Very helpful and they stock a good range of bits, useful for scratchbuilders. There ought to be some in Glasgow, but I only know Bells, mainly trains, and Jamiesons - superb for plastic kits but not a lot else. There is a new one in Ayr, just over the bridge by the harbour, but thie is an unknown quantity so far.

Pleased to announce that despite the demise of our local model shop in Grantham town centre - I've opened the doors to my own hobby store and employed the manager of the closed shop, only been trading since July 1st  and still stocking up, it's all been a little frantic, only made the decision second week of June! but we're getting there - we will be getting more boat related things in but at the moment it's very much cars, planes and helicopters, railway stuff, static's  - oh and loads of Warhammer!

The issue we've had is that a few suppliers have thought we weren't 'proper retailers' despite photo's and documents and assumed we're on-line traders or 'fly by night' mail-order only. We've taken on two industrial units, one for retail and the other as a workshop / playroom. And the parking is great compared to town...

Fratton Model Centre in Portsmouth.
Our own Unbuiltnautilus works there so plenty of Model Boat knowledge and some good advise.
Once you get to know them you do get a better class of insult, sorry banter.

Galaxy models in Ipswich, though they've recently stopped doing model railway stuff. Whenever I go in there's always someone sorting out a query with a radio controlled car or aircraft.

In Oxford
we have 2

Howes models
Oxford model centre
Then there is Boswells department store that has a toy dept with a good selection of paints and plastic kits.

John

just curious but are either of the top 2 in the city centre. i was in oxford some 25 odd years ago when i was a young fella and i remember looking through a model shop there and was very impressed with their range of stock even back then. i cant remember the name but it was quite a small premises.

                                                                                                   NOT an ad !

When, as a very young airman I was posted to the late RAF Lyneham in 1972, I decided to continue my model making activities and had a scout around in the nearby town of Swindon.

'Twas there that I found  Swindon Model Centre   owned by Jan and Rose Korda who became great friends to both my wife and myself.

Almost 40 years later, I still call and see them whenever I can and although we have lost touch once or twice when I lived abroad, I can always be assured of a warm welcome whenever I visit their shop.

So...if you're ever in Swindon (!) drop in and say hello to the Kordas and if they haven't got exactly what you need, they'll soon have it !
