Red wire     If you get a pin you can lift the small bar on the plug and pull just the red wire out of the plug bend it back and put a bit of tape on it ,you can then go back to use it with bec later. Peter

Is that the Chinese speed control unit that I have seen advertised on Ebay ?  If so, perhaps you could let me know how they perform.

They are selling these at half the normal price  (but £10 postage !!)

You could also get a very short extension lead and cut the red wire on that,so you don't alter the controller and you could use it in another model in the future or with different battery/motor set up.
Not sure where the switch is as far as this speed ctr but you may find by just putting a piece of plastic to stop the switch working may be all you need ,the switch will prob not work when you stop using the bec

you could just lock the switch in the off position.
A bit of plasticard through the screw holes to hold in the off position.

Bob,

I don't know why you keep saying that, unless they send different ones to Australia,
as I have 11 of these speed controllers and all so far go as quick in reverse as forward......

Maybe it's because they are upside down as far as the UK is concerned. O0 O0 O0

cbr,
I have only seen being used 3 of these controllers in low drain scale ships and all 3 ended up removed as they wouldn't stop the model.
Then I tacho'd them, 1/2 speed astern.
Yours have to be a different spec or possibly updated.

Well Guys here are the results.....
All went surprisingly well ...Yes you were right Bob only 50% reverse  :( :(       OK if you are on the pond yourself but if there were a lot more boats flying about I think a bit more power astern may come in useful :D but all in all a good first sail.
All the same I think I`ll just install a couple of Mtronic marine 15s ,better to be safe than sorry eh? O0
PS Thanks for warning Bob  O0 O0

I think you must be right Bob, they might be a different spec,
as I am using them in quite a few classes and all stop very well
when reverse is applied............
