545 and ESC
« on: August 04, 2011, 08:54:28 pm »

Hi all, could someone please tell me if it would be ok to use 2 mabuchi 545 motors through 1 viper 25 ESC or would i be better off using 2 viper 15's the power is supplied by a 6 volt 4amp sealed lead acid. Whichever set up is best it will be going through a single channel on the reciever.   Thanks.

In theory YES its ok.
BUT that depends on the vessel being driven,
              its displacement,
the size of props and number of blades and their pitch
and finaly what performance you expect.
Thus a little more information may enlighten us all and through knowledge and experiance advice of some use to you may be forthcoming.

Thanks for your advice pirate. The only part that i can answer is that the set up is for a 1:48 scale 48" coastal survey vessel HMS Bulldog. I dont get the drawings for another 2 weeks so not sure of the prop size or pitch, only that they will be 3 bladed. As for performance it doesnt need to be fast as these vessels were only capable of 15 knots max.

For avoidance of doubt as to the amps drawn you would be better off using two mtronics 20amps for each motor and prop. This should give you more than enough leeway.

Mtronics ex demo's which are with the normal full guarantee can be bought from Mtronics direct at a decent saving.

My Model Slipway Sentinel is running on the same size motors as you are using.
I have used one of ACTions magic P94s which incorporates 2 x 10amp speed controllers as shown in link.

Many thanks Mikearace, i went into my local model shop today and they said the viper marine 15 would be ok with my setup, so got home and purchased 2 ex demos for £15 each and the postage was free and you still get the 2 year warranty.  Great stuff.   :-))
