HMS Liverpool sees action off Libya
« on: August 05, 2011, 12:12:28 am »

Get in! Y'dont mess with a T42  :-))

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8682572/Libya-Royal-Navy-warship-HMS-Liverpool-comes-under-heavy-fire.html

A missile launcher is said to have sent a number of rockets towards Liverpool that has been stationed off Libya for several weeks.

The Type 42 destroyer returned heavy naval gunfire answering Col Gaddafi's forces with its 4.5in main gun sending several shells arching into the night during the early hours of Wednesday.

The attack came after Liverpool fired a barrage of illumination rounds in support of an air attack on the regime stronghold of Zlitan.

No casualties were suffered by the ships compliment during the exchange and the MoD were unable to confirm if the battery was destroyed during the duel.

The attack came after the helicopter carrier Ocean launched her Apache attack helicopters against a hotel in Zlitan that was being used as a military base.

Heartening to know that Britains oil supplies are going to be well looked after. Points make prizes.

No oil in Somalia and not much in Syria.

Very cynical.

Think you'll find the humanitarian aid we send to places like Somalia is considerable. Defence cuts mean we cant commit to anything in Syria although the world should be doing something to stop the goings on there.

Aid from the infadels doesn't solve the root cause in Somalia, and the fact that a quarter of the globe is no longer coloured red means we haven't enough money to spend on benevolent jaunts.

Cynicism has nowt to do with it, the coffers are nearly empty.

  Regards  Ian.

Perhaps Greece Spain and Italy should help?

Withdraw the whole lot and let them get on with it. When it all settles out again (as it will, eventually) we'll be able to see what the new world order is going to be. We will always have despots in areas of poverty and lack of education (ring a bell?). Sort our own problems out first before preaching to the world just to get some International "Brownie Points". Well yes. With an outlook like that, dont be surprised when no one comes to our aid should we ever need it!

Personally, Im proud our 'little' nation is still prepared to do what is morally correct.

Yes, the captain of the Titanic did the moral thing, bout time some took a realistic view of our little nation and it's place in world order.
