Switching and expansion modules?.
« on: August 08, 2011, 10:16:37 pm »

I have a rough idea as to what these items do but, is there a publication or other place, maybe on the net where those who know about these items and what they do have left their information?. I think I am right that they allow you to have more than one function per channel and no doubt the clever ones among us have devised clever electronic add-ons.
How do they work, exactly what can they do?. I have read the adverts on some of the web sites but it leaves me with more questions than answers. I have tried to understand these devices but it would be helpfull if there was a book that explains it all. I have searched the net but to no avail.
Thank you,
derfledermause.

Hi Derfledermause.

Bascially what it does is take one radio control channel and using electronic wizardy, it 'encodes' the information from say 8 switches (encoder) down this one channel in the form of a repeating loop.  At the receiver end (decoder), it reads the encoded information and decodes the information back to on/off positions from the original switches at the tx and activates relays, lights etc.

Thats a very simplistic view based on my small brain.

These websites may be of use to you.

Gentlemen,  "dpbarry" and "More coffee", many thanks for your replies. I am trying to digest the information you both have given, once I understand the function of these devices then I can design what I want to do with them on my particular model.

Are you trying to add an extra layer of multiplexing to an existing setup, or just looking for a multi way switching device to have one channel switch several devices?
