just had free stat  put in is it possible to record free stat with an ordernary recorder  vhs  thanks

You will have to use a scart lead from the freesat receiver to the video in order to bypass the video receiver .
Scart is the 21 pin lead.

Its the one that works properly, and lets you take your recordings somewhere else to enjoy, rather than just storing the program in one box that, when it breaks down, which it will, loses all of your saved programs.  Not all progress is an improvement.

I remember now,one of those machines that plays cassettes that contains a magnetic  tape that gets scrunched up and  becomes un-playable,if they are not looked after,coupled wth the fact the getting hold of a machine is like getting a hen with teeth,

i have had this sony vhs for 3 years now not a bit of trouble if things are looked after thay will last

A tape dies, you lose the contents of the tape.  A hard disc dies, you lose the lot.  Unless you backed up to tape.  Or DVD, but VHS tape was re-usable and worked on all VHS players, and not all re-recordable DVDs are usable on all machines.
