Failing that it'll fit in my car. The roof box I'll be making for Prinz Eugen will also fit the tanker with 2ft to spare.

Hi Dave, you could use the roof box lid as a loading/offloading ramp. You just need a little motorised winch
on top to drag them back in the box. O0 {-) {-)

Hi Dan

Unfortunately Dan I have only added some decals from Barrys Model Lettering, still on the lookout for some bigger food bowls to make the gas vessels....

Your takeaway food bowl halves' usage as gas calottes is a brilliant idea.
However, could you get them in a size with a wee bit wider diameter?
I think on a tanker one wouldn't waste that much extra space around the tanks.
Virtually, a tanker's hull is faired around the tanks after they have been arranged in a way that makes fullest use of the available space (i.e. displacement).
That's why the waterlines of ULCCs exhibit unfavourably high curvatures and buttocks with steep angles in the run (stern) which cause considerable headaches to the ship hydrodynamisists when designing an efficient propulsion.

That quote alone has given me the most seering of considerable  headaches!! %% %% %%
could you explain in simple modellers terms please, as I for one haven't got a clue as to what you are on about {:-{ {:-{ {:-{

Looking very nice by the way, Russ...........haven't seen one built since I made the plugs, some years ago.

I think he means tankers exhibit lines similar to a brick, so as to maximize the volume available to carry crude ;)

Of course the old dome style LNG tankers have been superseeded with membrane style tanks which can maximise volume of liquified gas

some interesting pics here of the new tankers the inside of a membrane tank ad a ship without a bow :o

Thanks lads,

If you look at reply no.79 I said I was on the lookout for some bigger bowls, still not found any yet though........ <:(

Oh, I apologize for not having read through the whole thread carefully enough.

But your VLCC gas tanker will be an impressive model, no matter what size of bowls you will incorporate.

I think tankers and bulkers are seldom picked as a topic for model making and thus are a rare sight on model boat ponds.
Quite undeservedly, because they are an interesting type of ship, and some designs may even be considered to reveal a certain beauty,
like this more handy size gas carrier which I would fancy if I ever built a model of a crude carrier.

Yes, exactly.
They have the highest block coefficients (which is the ratio of the volumetric displacement of the hull vs. the block that would be formed when multiplying its main dimensions, Lpp, B, T, and hence a measure of fulness) among sea-going vessels.
This makes them especially susceptible to flow separation and poor propeller inflow.
Thus much research has been devoted to the propulsion issues of single screw high block coefficient vessels (viz. in many ship model basins like e.g. MARIN)
