Washport Positions
« on: March 23, 2007, 10:47:10 am »

I hope you knowledgeable people out there can help me.

I am building a Mountfleet Sealight Puffer and want to fit the working washports. The problem I have is this the hull thickness at deck level is 2mm, the washports are 5mm thick. So which side of the hull does the excess go or should they be flush? In which case I have some filing to do. :( :(

A partially educated guess, inside,   ???

anything on the outside might snag, and the doored sort would open to let the water out and not in.

But I will give way if wrong.  tug

The top of the "flap" is inboard and the lower 2 thirds is outboard. Hinge 1 third of depth from the top. Therefore the port closes under its own weight when the ship rolls the other way.

hi there Brian chingdevil

Washport doors are normally the same thickness as the side bullwarks so I am afraid you will have to thin down yours from 5mm to 2mm thick - or, you could actually, if you prefer, manufacture new ones out of 2mm thick plastic card.    If this doesnt help, give a shout - Ive got some drawings which I can dig out for you.
