Which tug
« on: August 25, 2011, 11:52:35 am »

Hi all a newbie here ..its been 28yrs since i raced boats and made a few scale mtb,s......so now i have time to spend on what i always wanted to build but never got round to it,a nice tug.I have been looking at mount fleets envoy/flying tempest and Cruiser tug as i love the detail of the mouldings (bit pricey though) ,if i go hull only i really like the style of the  sun xx1 or cervia . I would really appreciate any thoughts on what direction to go in before i commit to buy . Meanwhile i am building a  37 "perkasa to get me back into boatbuilding mode.......Thanks phil

Hi Phil, welcome back to the dark side.

Have you checked out Model Slipway, they do some excellent kits with clear and concise drawings and instructions.

They have an excellent web site. http://www.modelslipway.com/

They are very nice, helpful people and know the hobby inside out.

To date I have done five of their kits and swear by them.

Remember we need photos of your builds which ever you choose to do.

I'm just finishing off my Dirty Harry, the MSW Envoy. Its a great model imo. The Assurance is very similar but part of the superstructure is card not FG like the Envoy.

Just had a look at the Mount Fleet Cruiser tug. That's one good looking model although is £100 more.

Hi Phil I a newbee too ,I am halfway building the Smit Nederland from Billings & have their Fairmount Alpine waiting to start. The instructions are not too good but are very well made kits with good materials. It took me awhile to figure out the Nederland but I am doing o/k now. Lots of luck with your choice & hope to see some pictures soon. Mick B.
