This time last year I consulted All Electric R/C in Staffs about their budget bell motor/ESC combo. (they recommended I should buy the cheapest one for experimenting - thank chaps). The film above should show the resultant toy. It is built of 1/16" ply, the hoop is 3 laminations of 1/32" ply over a contiboard former. The 6-cell Nicad pack lives in the hull: everything else is in the "motor" bit. She hasn't enough power to move on land, goes well on water, and is completely uncontrollable on ice!!! the rudders are operated by a cable which goes through a brass tube round the outside of the hoop, and the servo is a standard size Hitec.  The hoop and works are fixed to the hull by two plastic number plate bolts, the nuts being trapped in ply boxes in the hull.
