Motors for Forrest Sherman US Destroyer
« on: September 08, 2011, 02:10:57 PM »

HI,

I am (slowly) building this model which is a twin screw. Its very light and will probably only need somwhere in the region of 61/2lbs of ballast. Can anyone advise on suitable motors and how best to wire them up??

Thanks

Great, I have two 1:96 warships, HMS Javelin and HMS Amethyst

I have used two Deans Marine Kestral motors with one Mtronics 25amp speed controller.

The motors are wired so they turn in opposite directions so LH and RH props can be used.

This is the easiest and cheapest way to do it.

HMS Javelin

HMS Amethyst

Dicky, that looks similar to my Amethyst setup, except I only have one battery. But I can't for the life of me ballast it properly. I've seen pics of yours on the water and it looks great. How did you ballast it?

(sorry to hijack your thread, Builder1  %) )

The Javelin had two batteries.

The Amethyst I altered and used one battery in the centre and a strip of lead sheet under it.
