MountFleet Cruiser Tug
« on: September 09, 2011, 12:00:01 pm »

Anyone building or built one of the MountFleet Cruiser tugs?

Looks a nice detailed model in 1\32nd, smidge under 1200mm and weighing, sorry, displacing just over 18kg. Lots of pieces in the kit with detailed moulded hull and superstructure parts.

What's it like to build given the moulded parts? Is there a lot of other building to do, any plasticard build etc? What size motor would normally go in this? Although steam would be great, I cant do with the hassle of steam.

Thoughts?

Hello justboatonic !
I am building a Mountfleet Pilot boat, there is a Mountfleet ship being built on RC Groups ....
I am Very happy with the quality, the glass fiber superstructure parts save WEEKS of building time, there are no card stock parts.
Many high quality white metal fittings.
A great investement !

Hi in Scale Model Tugs & Trawlers by Ton Gorman he builds the Cruiser tug and from what I have read looks to be a very good kit.
As for  motors I would go for MFA Torpido 500 geared type  with either 6:1 for 12 volt or 2.5:1 for 6 volt systems.
And as the hull is nice and big so you can get a nice big lead acid in their!! :-)
Hope this helps.
