Which he would have found out if he'd asked you Jackie. O0
Well, as I ordered it through Westbourne Models, I asked them instead, as you should contact YOUR supplier, not theirs.  ;)

has anyone mentioned the little Lady Laura from Metcalf Mouldings..

great little tug but needs better propellors........Goes together superbly

built this one in a little over ten days on my knees on a cutting board one winter's cold spell............and once the cast white metal props had been changed for brass ones, she sailed really well and very manouverable.

Thanks very much for all the suggestions.
Possibly leaning towards the Wyeforce at the moment, partly because it looks good, partly because of the step by step photo guide!
But then agan the Lady Laura looks good too and might be better for a first boat.

Clearly there's a huge amount of work that goes into these models, but that doesn't put me off.
I suppose of the two the Lady Laura might be better for a beginner?, but the Wyeforce more challenging?

So as I'm leaning towards the Wyeforce, just how good are the parts and instructions?
Would it really be 'dooable' for a model boat virgin?

Oh Damn - now that I look again - that looks good too!
And it's slightly smaller than the Wyeforce which might suit me better.

So I guess the same question applies - just how good are the parts & instructions and is it 'dooable' for a beginner?

How good are the instructions?  Well I think you will struggle to find any better instructions in my opinion.

MSW Fittings?  As good as anyones if not better.

MSW Hull?  Again top notch.

CNC and printed plastic - highly accurate.

Only thing I am ever quibble about is I am not always convinced that plastic is the best material for support beams but thats just me.  Fact is I have built 3 MSW kits with plastic support beams and havent had an issue so dont know why I remain unconvinced.   Guess I just need to find something to moan about!!!

Did you see my build ?

Its an excellent kit, not to big and not to small.

I'll go with what mikearace says about the rest, except I was happy with the deck supports.

I have made 5 MSW kits and enjoyed every one.

>>>STOP PRESS<<< >>>DECISION MADE<<<

Phew, strange how things turn out.
After beers in the pub last night where model tugs were discussed (without too much mick-taking) and 'brunch' this morning, I have my hands on a Model Slipway 'Yorkshireman'.

Turns out the landlord bought the kit a while ago, but didn't really have time for it.
There are some parts missing, so I've emailed Model Slipway this morning to see if I can get replacements.

So... the journey starts. (assuming I can get the missing bits)

Might be more than I can handle, but what the heck - won't know until I try... (and I got it for a snip!)
With this in mind - Could anyone point me to a 'step by step' build photo guide that I could refer to?

I'd like to do a 'blog' of the build (and am sure I'll have a million questions for you guys).
Which section of this forum would be best to start the blog and ask some of the zillion questions as I go along?
Also, is there a good comprehensive online store where I could get all the tools, glues, and 'stuff' I'll need?
(oh no - there's two questions already!)

Thanks for all your help - it's all very much appreciated

I would put it in the Tugs section ...  in the Dry Dock department.

I've always fancied the Yorkshireman myself so will be following your build with interest   :}

Please note the Yorkshireman blog on Modeltugforum is of the new version of the kit.  Herebelow another two links on a French forum, both of the new version of the kit, some details are not included in the kit (e.g. wheelhouse interior, large crane on rear deck).

Hope the above helps

That second links model is fantastic Jackie. Where do they find someone small enough to do that work in the wheel house ?

Well, most of the missing parts will be on their way soon - thanks Jackie!

As I'll be looking to get started soon, I'll start another topic in the 'tug build' section of this forum.
I'm hoping you guys will follow me there... no doubt I'll have a zillion questions!
(I have some already!)

Herebelow is a link to the kit review published in Model Boats mag in 1991. This shows the old version of the kit first released in 1989.

Hope this helps.
