I have started on the handrails today and it a very slow job as there is a lot of soldering which is a bit intricate at this scale .

Thank you Mr Dreadstar.

I must admit I am really enjoying this build although it is taking suuuch a long time.

Still making fittings and fitting them.

Have redone the electrics as I made a cock up of putting a new chip in the ACTion P94.  Fortunately Dave at ACTion fixed it double quick as usual and all is fine now.

Few more photos.

I see you have got the ladders on her.
How did you make them?

Believe it or not Brian I had some left over when I made my corvettes.

Didnt know I had them and have forgotten where I got them.

Think its an age thing.

Have given the boat a test in the water tank and she is just about on the waterline with a few more bits to add, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Have finished off the handrails thank goodness, all the soldering finished at last.

I am now waiting for the gun, radar domes and other pieces to arrive from Oz where Steve is casting them for me, they should be here in the next couple of weeks.

So a few more photos till the bits arrive.

Hi Dicky
Railings are Looking good. Not trying to be picky but i notice you have a hatch port side on the gunplinth. There is actually an air exhaust vent there for the emergency generator compartment. If you want some details let me know.  :-)
I just purchased some plastic ladders from Floataboat here in Aus, they have the round styles and rungs, they arrived today so will make one up and see how it looks.

Hi Glen
I know about the hatch /vent. I have several drawings showing one or other, but had noticed after I had gone with the hatch that the photos show the vent.

Haven't had a chance to change it yet as I have been too busy soldering.

Hi Glen
I will be interested to know how you get on with the ladders.
I now have an "e tag" so I can pop up 'Eastlink' toll road to FAB in Ringwood much more easily than by the old roads if you want me to look and buy anything.
Rhonda knows of my sweet tooth and lets me "pinch' a sweet from the lolly jar on the counter. %%

This weekend I have made more fittings including the vent for the emergency generators and the bits for the anchor including the winch and the anchor itself.

When this was done the boat was given another coat of paint.

The deck and bridge roof colour is 'Pewter', a mid - dark grey.   A mix of straight black and white seems to be about right.

Hi Bri see reply 65

Any idea what the nearest Tamiya colour is for the deck.

Steves castings will be on their way shortly, ready to be posted now.

Not having used Tamiya paints I will have to go to the model shop and check.

Thanks Brian, just just one of the problems with being colour blind.

Its much easier if I have a reference number.

Hi Dickie
After facing the terrors of the road to Dandenong, Hoon doing ++++ over the speed limit, I did manage to compare my samples with Tamiya paints.   Only the lids and colour on the bottom of the jar but hopefully near enough.
Deck colour (Pewter) is XF 77 - IJN Grey ( Sasebo Arsenal)
Hull etc. (Storm Grey) is nearly XF 12 - JN Grey

This afternoon and yesterday afternoon has been spent making the davits for the rhibs. Yet another job full of awkward angles.

I made the davits using Plastruc plastic sections.

Now all I have to do is convince Steve in Oz that the world will be a much nicer place if he could make the rhibs for me.

My radar domes are still winging their way here from down under.

The davits certainly make the boat look much more complete.   O0
Steves 1:50 RHIBs are rather on the heavy side.  I will try them as they are but I fear I might have to cut the bottoms off and make new hulls fixed to the tube sides.  <:(

This week I received my  resin castings from Steve in Oz and they are some of the cheapest and the best that I have had the good luck to purchase.

I have now fitted the radar domes and painted them and the deck surfaces.

I have assembled the gun and platform and fixed and part painted them.

I have assembled the liferaft containers and their davits and their handrails ready for painting and fixing.

Just a few more fittings and the two rhibs to go now, once Steve has turned out the rhibs.

Thanks to Glen in Oz for giving me a prompt answer with photos to one of my queries about the positioning of some of the fittings.

She's looking really nice, Richard :-)) I'll be interested to hear how the 1/72 model sails, I'm thinking you will need flat calm water, as there won't be much freeboard.

I had mine out for a run yesterday, and I'm as pleased as ever with its performance.

Peter.

Hi Rich', those castings DO look crisp, smashing finish. The Armidale sure has a lovely sleek look about it - like it. :-))

Coming on nicely. She will be on the water before "The Rat"  O0
The Davits certainly help her to look complete.   I must get on with mine.

Thanks for the comments chaps, nearly there now.

She is a bit on the heavy side so it will be interesting to see how she floats when finished.
