Autumn?Winter trawler Build Project
« on: September 17, 2011, 04:09:01 pm »

Some time ago I was given this hull which my grandson wants me to build. I have NO experience of rc boats, only plank on frame static models.

I am uncertain as to whether the propellor is angled correctly or too high.

The keel is 630mm
beam 200mm
length from bow to stern, 800 mm
I would appreciate any suggections. the hull is fibreglass. I have no plans to work from or idea of what rc kit to buy. I do have a rc comntroller from another boat I have, however.
Will photograph boats in the harbour for ideas.
Thanks in anticipation.

Looking at the photos she is plank on frame surely
Probably has a skin of glass cloth a resin on the outside
Looks like a motor has been screwed to the baseboard
so it could be ok for the shaft angle
Look for a vessel with a whaleback focsle and go from there.
Grandsons come second only to SWIMBO's when they want something doing  {-) {-)

 :-)) Thanks, Ned.
A resin coating could well be it. I suspect this was a kit in the beginning.

Perhaps one of the old Billings kits

it looks like the old Nordcap, which our very own Peter Fitnass made a beauty of some while ago with a build thread I think.

also if you go onto this site you'll find a great wealth of trawler photos to have a look at........give you some ideas at least.

:-)) Thanks, Guys. I'm certain that it was a kit as everything looks moulded, Ned. Great link, Neil. I've joined, Will now look for Peter's thread. Much appreciated.
