Unfortunately accidents do happen, I wish the canoeist a speedy recovery.
I am sure the official enquiry will provide recommendations to help ensure that the incident is not repeated.

terrible thought that, i had similar many years ago while i was snorkeling  off abersoch, bloody muppit in a fast boat that i managed to dive down from, its a horrible noise and i was lucky not to get hit, thing is i was swimming between my anchored 14 foot boat and a cliff face which was about 25 foot away, the speed boat went between the boat and cliff !!, unfortunatly you still dont need a licience to use small craft, if i rem right you can sail anything upto 20mtrs without any form of proficiency test

According to a report on another site, the high speed boat was chasing an OMRA model during a race with four people aboard the chase boat.  Anybody from that organisation care to comment? {:-{
