the eduard kits are full of fiddly little bits, the `big ed` kit contains the both detail kits at a slightly lower price than purchasing separably, they also dont come with the thin rod you will need for the likes of hinges and the like, they do though really enhance the standard model,  they dont come with metal gun barrels, nor do they come with any  metal railings or stanchions which to my mind the model needs especially if you intend converting it to rc, pre starting the kit its well worth tracking down a copy of model military international - issue 50  june 2010, theres eight pages of description with pictures of a build of this kit were the author has super detailed it without using any aftermarket kit

the lionroar kit does come with metal gun barrels but still no metal railings or stanchions  but i have read a couple of reviews were the authors said the kit was not worth it and recommended eduards

if you want the metal guns then i found them on ebay

as for stanchions, i found robbe 25 mm two hole ones were close enough

I have a lion roar detailing set for a trumpeter BR52 steam loco kit
The detail is amazing but you need the dexterity of a neurosurgeon and eyes of a hawk to really do it justice

I thankyou G'men for replying to my post the remark as to dexterity eyesight is very apt (aged with failing sight) and I agree MMI #50 is inspiring great modelling skills I'm pleased to say it was tracked just prior to delivery of " THE BOX".  I'm awaiting delivery of Master Model barrel set but the LionRoar pricing is a bit rich for my blood . I have a pair of geared 480's along with a geared 600 plus shafts and props but to RC or not to RC is the question. {:-{

Yes the Lion Roar ones are pricey but when you open the little box you can understand why.

For the BR52 there are 22 sheets of etch, a bag of brass and plastic rod, chains, resin cast parts and very good instructions.

For this kit the parts add about 300 parts to the model not including those that replace existing kit parts.  For Example the gauges (of which there are 12) are each made up of 6 seperate parts.  This replaces 3 plastic parts lol

Admittedly I have not had the measuring stick in hand and I typed 600 not 480 ( another 480 is reqd) but at a glance I think it can/will be done.
I have more of a prob will be shaft support I lack the dexreity these days to consruct same -I have had a look at G.T Sitek site along with others - some look right but I'm of an age that grew up with look and touch before $$$"s change onwership, hard to do from downunda.
This of course brings us back to the oringal post- after market items.

ive used the standard shaft angles which allowed me to use the p frames as supplied in the kit and also the outer skegs, andy of mmb`s kindly made my 2mm shafts, i have also used the supplied rudders and drilled them out to accept brass rod, the three rudders work using a standard servo to control the main rudder and a mini servo on a Y lead controlling the outers
i have all motors operating off one 25 amp mitronik esc

heres something i played with to give me `gun sounds` with the decks on and the speakers facing the hull you get a better sound - ignor the dog noises - not part of the system, its two labradors and a noisy jack russel arguing over a toy  {-), also shows the rudders

dont know if this will work, a vid i did for my youngest when he asked what i was doing  {-)

Treeboa that has 2 B a short/long snake hiding a bush but does have the skills to motivate an old grey snake whom now requests info as to the source of the stanchions- are they Robbe 2's mentioned within an earlier reply - and the brass work is it all his own, if so how.

this short/long snake is an old grey snake that refuses to shed the young skin  {-), being now 56 a lot has and does go past O0
right yes those stanchions are robbe 25mm twin holes, if my vernier is to be believed the rail is 1mm, though i did have to relieve the holes on most stanchions, the other brass is the same diameter wire, what i did was copy the other bits on card and bend the wire to suit, allowing approx 2mm ends to go into the decks, all soldering was done in place on the boat using croc clips to dissapate any heat, gun barrel was turned on my unimat 1
just remembered, the rearmost stanchions need to have the tails trimmed back a bit or they foul on the hull, you will notice on the kits side rails some have secondary angled legs, not done those as yet but it will handrail wire used and angled to suit then soldered below the lower rail

i got my stanchions via ebay,

access via that mid section is poor, i cut my deck right behind the wheelhouse and have made using the mounting screws the rear deck totally removable if needed, what looks like a black line in this pic behind the wheelhouse

just thinking, some guys have wanted to use scale props, to do this you need to use gearboxes, i found a cheap source on the bay of fleas  {-)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MP-Jet-Gearbox-400-STD-4-1-1-2-3mm-Pinion-MPJ8011-/300608657619?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item45fdac18d3#ht_500wt_922

and also some nice neat steering arms

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Packs-Steering-Arms-12mm-2-5mm-Hole-MPJ2240-/290618638904?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item43aa388238#ht_500wt_922

mine does not have gear boxes in as im using none scale graupner 25 mm three blade plastic props, 2 right hand and one left - have least stuck with how these ran

that piece of wood in the hull, my center shaft tube is shorter that the outers, found at full chat the center shaft whipped around, so i added a bush to  support the shaft and over sized holes for the outers, then bonded the lot in with 5min epoxy
