Admiralty dazzle paints

All

I am new to the forum, but have been trying to find out for some time, the correct colours for Admiralty dazzle paints.

Would anyone know where these might be obtained, (I've tried WEM, but they don't answer the phone, and haven't replied to emails) or indeed mixed from other colours?

The particular colour that I'm stuck on, is Admiralty Code No 5, Reddish blue, which I need to use on a model of HMS Nelson.

TIA

Are you talking WWI or WWII? Snyder and Short put out paint chip sets that you can use to colour match, but they cover WWII as far as I can tell. I've looked at the 3 sets I have and they don't list a no.5. There is a B5, which is a bluish grey colour.

You can check out the sets and the forum on http://www.shipcamouflage.com/

John Snyder, part owner is also a member of the WEM crew and would be the best person to talk to. But they have been closed for a week or so for renos and the floods have probably kept them busy.

Good luck!

You'll certainly get the info from WEM in due course. I'm surprised, though, that you describe this as a reddish blue. B5 was more a fairly pure dark blue, but I've seen no reference to this used on Nelson. G5 certainly was used, and this was a very dark grey, almost black. The 5 in G5 indicates a light reflectivity of 5%. The decks and turret tops may well have been painted in this same grey.

Admiralty Code No 5, also not heard of this classification, where was your source information?

Normally admiralty codes are

MS#, AP#, WA#, PB#, G#, B# (letters followed by a number.)
