Build a long throw servo arm, and place the control arm down near the hinge at the base of the door/ramp.
That will give the bow door plenty of throw. For water tight, the bow of these boats, and
the raised deck behind the door are enough to keep the water out. However, what I did was
allow a little space around the opening for a gasket. Then I applied a bead of silicone caulking
around the base, and either side of the opening. I placed a piece of plastic food wrap across the
inside of the door/ramp, and then closed the door.  Let the caulking squeeze out, and once cure, then
trim it flush to the edges of the opening. The plastic food wrap will keep the door from being sealed up
against the opening, and it should be able to drop back down after the caulking cures.

How big a servo did you use Umi?

Hi Martin,

I just used a standard servo.
The servo arm, however, I extended by at least an inch.

The Speedline Models landing craft uses a sailwinch and a system of cables to open and close the bow door, which I assume, is what was used on full size......

How did they seal the door in a realstic and non-obvious way?

If feasible, I would copy how it operated in actuality. Or would go as far down that road as possible and with that in mind, there's an etch fret available for it. The metal parts may help with the hinges and pulleys/brackets you'd need if you mimiced how the real item operated, i.e. a cable pulling the ramp up.

You may also need a bit of lead in the top of the ramp to help it lower itself under it's own weight while pulling the cable out of the craft.

The pivots on the ramp will be important as well.
