Sail Making and Bolt Ropes
« on: August 23, 2014, 09:01:45 pm »

I get a lot of questions about my sails, and see a lot of questions about making sails for working models with "traditional rigs."

To streamline inserting my two-cents I added a page on sail-making to the Notes section of my site.  It's sort of a first draft and I'd love your input on it - questions will tell me what I may have left out.

Thanks folks,

I'm going to take a look now Jerry.

Anything that can help my understanding of how sailing ships worked is worth reading. As my main interest up to my present build has been motorised I need all the help I can get!

Thanks Jerry,

I found this page on how to get a bolt rope to look right really useful, getting the thread to lay in the twist of the rope. The only sails I made using a bolt rope were a disaster, this would have helped a lot...
