Portland Pilot Boat
« on: October 15, 2011, 07:19:17 pm »

Well i had the privelige today of starting the very first full kit of the Portland Pilot boat from Andy at Models by Design.  The mouldings are excellent quality with a good thickness to them, the kit consists of a two piece moulding, hull with deck joined and the wheelhouse, some fitiings such as window frames, rear door, liferaft and brasswork are ready with the cast resin fittings due to be finished next week.
First job today was to cut a false bow thruster tube into the hull, this was done using a piece of brass tube and fit the propshafts and rudders, after this was complete i managed to spray the hull before it went dark, a little tricky as the white stripe is a funny shape and crosses two spray rails...

Apologies for the last couple of pictures, dropped the camera and now the flash as stopped working  >:-o

A ittle more done today although the deck texturing didnt come out as i wanted, for this vessel i used very fine metal dust with a good spray over, i think the paint has reacted in certain places as it looks dark in patches, maybe with a few days drying it might look ok.  Progress has been made on the wheelhouse with cutting out of the windows and also on the fendering...

Hello

I was surprised with the word in french on the dave drawing, but ... the flag is wrong as red-white-blue  >>:-(

There is a lot of interceptor pictures here http://www.safehavenmarine.com/CORK%20PILOT.htm

and here

what do you mean, I'm lost on that comment???
if you mean your flag, Not if it's viewed from the starboard side, it's not!

That drawing of the tricolour is wrong Neil, it should have the blue at the staff from both sides with the red at the fly. I have seen enough French flags over the years to know the answer.

Hello

Looking to safehavenmarine site I've seen other same mistake with flag like the Irish flag here, the green must be at the staff side !

I'd have to disagree with you there Mike.....flags aren't printed double sided to my knowledge, and if you were looking at that from port side yes it would be wrong, but looking from starboard, she's flying correctly with blue to left and red to right..same as the union flag or any other. the only ones I've ever seen double printed are the red and white ensigns..................by=ut I do like to be proven wrong, lol

Hello

Whouah nhp651 you must have a better look to ALL flags around the world as ALL have same colour at the staff side : and don't care about what side the flag is flying !

Even a flag don't have to be printed double side to have ALLWAYS  the same colour on the staff side  %%

Xtian you are quite right - by the way the "Irish" flag this way round is the flag of the Ivory Coast
