In fact as you fly the RNLI flag on your message I was thinking about that specific flag as there is letters on it ... maybe this one is not similar on each side with the R and the L on the staff side or not ?  

Looking on the web there are very rare pictures with staff side on right !  anyone have the answer ?

I'd have to disagree with you there Mike.....flags aren't printed double sided to my knowledge, and if you were looking at that from port side yes it would be wrong, but looking from starboard, she's flying correctly with blue to left and red to right..same as the union flag or any other. the only ones I've ever seen double printed are the red and white ensigns..................by=ut I do like to be proven wrong, lol

You are wrong. Tricolours are not printed but double thickness sewn together. I am sat looking at an official French army Tricolour on the wall of my office presented to me by the Foreign Legion 15 years ago, but that's another lifetime ago.

Anyway let's now get this thread back where it should be Boat building not flag discussions!!

After a bit of a disasterous start to the boat I am back on track now with the new hull, running gear and rudders re-fitted, sprayed properly this time and fendering finished, going to carck on with the wheelhouse this weekend and get the deck sprayed with anti-slip...

The deck has been sprayed with anti-slip and covered with Humbrol 131 green, progressing on the wheelhouse now...

Some vinyl sheet arrived today so added the red sections to the hull and the chrome to bow and stern to simulate the stainless reinforcement..

Over the past couple of days I have installed on the running gear, 2x800kv brushless motors coupled with 2x Seaking 60amp forward/reverse speed controllers, I also fitted a second level to carry the sound unit and speaker.

The stern mounted "man lift" as been scratch built from brass rod and perspex, just waiting on some chrome spray to finish, cruciform bollards are now fitted, i added some stainless bolt heads to these.

A nice setup you have there but one small thing I notice.... you have rubber engine mounts on the front of brushless outrunners.  Outrunners will generate a fair bit of heat and I am a little concerned they may not last too well.  You might also want to consider watercooled mounting plates for them as there wont be much airflow in there once the deck is in place.

Thanks for the comment, I have used these motors for about two years now in other boats and they dont generate any heat, I tested this model of motor for a good hour at speed and they were barely warm when checked...

First Russ your work is to your usual high standard, I followed your Tamar build too. I wondered what the motors are that you are using in the pilot boat & also in your Tamar. Last question, sorry to bother you did you make the mast on your Tamar retractable, I know you made a beautiful job of the solder work on it, thanks Mick B.

funny you should say that Mike, when i designed the kit orioginally and made 3 working models, including one of them as a self righting boat, they were to show the RNLI the capabilities of them as a lifeboat to supersede the Mersey class lifeboat and to be built under licence owned by the ship builders SAFEHAVEN MARINE, in EIRE.

Unfortunately Safehaven Marine didn't win the contract as the Shannon was to become the succesor, but this was a video of my selfrighting model which was shown to the RNLI
