I am wondering about deck colours for my Amethyst.

Deans reckon

Foredeck and rear of quarter deck Hull Red

Rear of forecastle deck and flag decks Oxford Blue

Front of forecastle deck and front of quarter deck Deck Tan

Anyone know if this is right ?

  In theory at least, B30, which one might describe as halfway between Oxford and Cambridge blue, but grey-blue rather than pure blue.

Hi Jonty on my colour card B30 is green, the colour you mention looks more like 507A.

Is this all decks including gun decks, except timber decks and foredeck and rear of quarter deck ?

I, too, was puzzled by the painting instructions for my model of Amethyst and could find no references for deck colours on the interwebby thing.

Eventually, I settled on Humbrol brick red for the extreme foremost part of the deck, up to the breakwater and the same for the aft section under the depth charge racks. For the rest I decided to bite the bullet and paint all of the remaining decks a dark blue/grey (and hang the criticisms of those who know better).

I have to say it does look quite a nice colour combination with the polar grey of the hull and superstructure (even if it might be wrong).

Hi Spook I have managed to ascertain that the Western Approaches and North Atlantic 1943/44 colour for the front and stern was green where as in Asia it was red.

The front of forecastle deck and front of quarter deck Deck Tan where planked.

I have done as you have and gone dark sea blue for the other decks.

Dicky, as I wasn't sure which decks were/weren't planked, I just did all but the extreme fore & aft in dark blue/grey, no tan at all. But it still looks nice. I'll post some pics soon.

Could only get one to open Jonty.

These colours are completely different to the ones Big Bri gave me. His B30 was green, yours is blue.

  Those colours are restored from actual Admiralty samples. I think the only greenish colour was G20, a sort of slate grey.

  Strange, at least the tone seems to be about right. According to Naval Camouflage 1914-1945, B30 was one part each Blue and Green paste in 40 parts Blue Black paste plus white. It's hard to see that coming out so predominantly green.
