Hi,
What is the right wire to use to connect a areo naut Race 400 electric motor and my trusty 6 pack which are six C cell Sanyo 1.2 V 1300mAh pushing a four bladed one and a quarter inch prop on a twenty inch tug.

Any clues for a good speed control for the above mix.

About the same as the wires coming out of the battery.  Any thinner becomes a potential fuse, any thicker can be considered overkill.  Stranded is better in a portable application like a working model where it might be moved by handling or vibration, but not mandatory.

Hi,

Thanks for the post.

This will be my first electric for many years. I am mainly into sailing.

 Hi malcolmfrary,

I followed your advise and used same size stranded electrical wire. I have a good Sparky mate.

I have connected the motor to the battery and let it run for five minutes and nothing was even warm to the touch.

I cannot remember but are electric motors run in?

Some are, some benefit from bedding in.  In the case of electric motors, its just a case of settling the brushes onto the commutator as fully as they should be, and normally thats the way they come out of the factory.  If it lights up like a small arc liamp, something is amiss.

Hi malcolmfrary,

In that case all is well as there are no sparks no odd noises or vibrations and no excess heat.

So onto the next step! Thanks for the advise.
