« on: March 30, 2007, 04:17:45 pm »

Anyone got any Ideas how I can use cans of "Air Duster" (left) for use with my airbrush?

I will not be astonished if you receive some strange replies to that question, Martin!

After all it was a rather airy-fairy question just because your all puffed up with having some leftovers from the build!

Yep!
1. Go and buy a compressor. You know you've always wanted one, and they'll not get any cheaper than they are now. You'll get a decent one for much less than the price of a Robbe kit.
2. Come home with it and hook it up to your airbrush; play around with it until you've got the hang of using it.
3. Just before you use the compressor and airbrush, put the spray-nozzle back on the AirDuster can and use it to blow the dust off the workpiece.............

God it's hard to control myself after being asked that :-X

You could use it for blowing-----stop it------dust out of your keyboard, breadcrumbs out of the toaster or you could stick it up your [Moderated] and blow your brains out.

Sorry it was just too much :-[ :-*

Great, but what exactly does it do ? :-\
I assume it does it in stereo.
Which one of you is the test pilot, always assuming it flys. ???

See chaps you all miss the point, it is heath robinson and just knocked up however there are many advantages to this:
Martin was fascinated watching what I was doing and actually concentrated on asking some serious questions about what we are doing next re: organising the Mayhem weekend.
Now complete, Martin will spend hours fiddling around trying to set the correct pressure up (which is dubious).
Martin will not go home until he has given up fiddling, this could be well past midnight, therefore his wife and nippers will have a nice relaxed evening.
Martin will not be on the motorways this weekend causing havoc everyone else and then causing chaos in B&Q.
After realising that this airbrushing contraption is not going to work the job will be left until Monday at which point I will pop into the workshop, get out the brush and paint the parts....job done ;o)

Oh, and of course it will fly, how well depends on how acurate my kick is.

I work ,for my sins ,as a painter in a carbody repair shop and hold out every hope that what you have built constructed thrown together works   ;D ;D ;D
If it doesn't may I suggest this compressor
http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=64562&ts=87852
I have one exactly the same in my workshop and it works fine for the amount of spraying that any average modeler will do .

Martin chuck the tin cans away and buy a compressor    you know it makes economic sense !  :) :)

I'll let you into a little secret........

Martin loves buying gadgets, tools, gizmo's etc, (don't we all !) but usually after the job their needed for is complete, these items then get put away and then forgotten about....until after the next job that is (OK I do to).

Now then, a few months ago Martin wanted a compressor, a small compressor so he looked on Ebay...he waited....then waited...then waited a bit more....and hey presto just the thing appeared...a small Tamiya model compressor and airbrush set. he had seen one of these before and really liked it, so he bought it.

Now then...when he reads this he will go Oh yeah, I forgot about that......!!!!!, trouble is, can he remember where he put it...   ;)

We may even get a picture if he finds it.....It may be in the workshop...or the shed..or the attic...  ;D

Out of interest -
A few years ago I bought a copy of a non-model boating magazine (just the one mind), entered a free competition and won a paint sprayer.  It's call an "Earlex" and is a 'high volume, low pressure' sprayer.  The gun on it looks quite professional and has knobs and things on it BUT holds enough paint to do the house, garage, car, lawn all in one go.  The 'compressor' is like the motor on a vacuum cleaner and the tube to the gun is about 25mm diameter! (It's still in the Argos catalogue).
Needless to say, it has never been used (I buy paint on a roll ::)).
With the groups obvious expertise in this area, I wondered whether it could be converted (not QUITE like Bradders masterpiece) ;D
into something that would be useful, apart from a very ugly doorstop.
Any ideas chaps?
I might give it away to the one with the best idea ;) ;D

Danny

Barry Scott reckons you could clean the limescale from over a hundred baths in less than a minute if you were to load your Earex gun with Cillit Bang............ or maybe you could clean the wax out of both of your ears at once.........

Suit yourself?

Hey FLJ - how did you know I was deaf :o ;D ;D JUST COS I DON'T SHOUT ALL THE TIME (anyway that's only when SWMBO wants something)!!
At least my eyesight is fine - I put an 'L' in EARLEX like on the gadget - not EAREX (but it's not a bad idea) ;D ;D

Yeah - spotted that, but pretended to ignore it for the purposes of getting a giggle. I guess you can't win 'em all, eh? At least I didn't mention Iran and the Royal Navy..... ;)

Saw a neat little job - Iwata airbrush compressor  - at a model show at the weekend (Studio series Sprint Jet) the guy on the stall highly recommended it (he would though wouldn't he) at £200. Any body got one, used one? Comments

Cheers
