Hello there,

I am building the 1-72 matchbox Flower class corvette and I'm about to paint the hull.  On some of the builds i have seen on this forum, some people have used primer. What is the benefit of using this?

It helps with adhesion of the top coat primarily. An added advantage is that the primer can be sanded down with wet'n'dry paper to give a smoother finish for the top coat

Halfords do a spray plastic primer in grey. Its designed to be flexible as the plastic. I've used to good effect.

A layer of primer also helps prevent light shining through the paint and plastic, making the model look more solid.
