The advent of computers was supposed to herald the 'Paperless Office'
The came printers for everyone Paper everywhere.
Instructions for a repair or callout are sent in nanoseconds but cannot in a lot of cases be dealt with
until the printout arrives to be handed to an operative at the start of the day.
BT supposedly at the top of the food chain for all the things IT and Communication are as bad as if not worse than
it's competitors

In defence of my old firm.............
I very much doubt that the engineer needs a bit of paper handed out at the beginning of the day, they didn't fifteen years ago, any way. I don't remember faultsmen ever being given fault reports on paper.
Just because one lives near an exchange doesn't help with speed of repair.
Just because lots of vans are coming and going doesn't mean they are trained or equipped to repair faults.
If you report your fault on line you can see the progress, (or not!) of the fault, at least you would know it's in the system

Trouble is, after the pigeon gets there, it still has to find someone to put it into the the system.  The system will then take exactly the same length of time ot feed the report through.
