Controller needed
« on: November 04, 2011, 09:24:36 pm »

Hi need some help as a novice
Have made a boat and have put on it two 12 volt 15 amp motors that I am trying to change to a remote control model.
I have removed the electrics from a Southampton tug boat and wired in to one of the motors which works ok out of water ,
My question is is the speed controller (hobby e2-140a3) suited to run these motors,
If it is up to the job where could I find another ?
If not suitable what should I go for.
Many thanks

you need at least 50 amp if usieg one speed controller or 2x 20 amp if useing two

the marine viper 20 amp will be good get two

or you can get a 5o  amp on ebay i use the 50 amp from china ill leave you the link

Thanks for the reply
What I am planning to do is use the Southampton controller running the two motors independantly to be able to steer the boat
So I am presuming I need two speed controllers wired up to the transmitter using rudder lever as second motor control

Thanks again may post a picture when it's done but may not be to easy on the eye but hopefully will do the job
Probably should have asked a few more questions before I started , probably could of bought a hull and attached these motors to it.
You live and learn
Thanks again

Hi,
in principal I agree with daveorgan, but I tried the cheaper 50Amp Esc's and run into problems at low rpm's, they just didn't work. I would spend the extra money and buy two 25Amp M-troniks viper marine ESC's. I use them in some of my boats and they work superb. ESC's from Action electronics seem to be good too.

Regards
Wilhelm

Hi David,  the ACTion P94 will handle two motors & is a mixer too, so you get all three in one unit , speak to Dave he will give you good advice & he also sponsors this forum. Mick B.

Ok thats sorted out have bought a p94 (Thankyou Dave you should be sleeping at 2 am) and a new Planet controller from Howes of Kidlington  just waiting for Battery pack as not supplied with Planet then fit everything into a some sort of water proof box and then find a good spot to test it out. Thankyou all for your comments.

Im not sure what you mean by battery box? Do you want one to run the Esc, servos etc. If so then why not buy a Bec from Dave or his fuse board with one fitted. Having a Bec will use the main batteries and drop the voltage to as said run the Rec, Esc and servos saving having seperate batteries. John.
