Dennis I would agree with you about painting the hammock netting a very dark colour - Like most ropes onboard they had
a coating of some tar type preservative - the ones on Victory are a really dark creosote brown ( thats the best way I can describe the colour)

As above - Geoff is correct, I think: all non-moving ropes (standing rigging, netting, etc.) would be tarred for longevity. Moving ropes (sheets, halyards, warps) are "natural".

STBD side deadeyes and gun port lids are in.  More work on rail to do and more cannon on upper deck to add before I move to the dark side.  Thinking about installng the main winch and steering station or work on it at least.  Tons to do. %%

Steering station is in. If you look closely, you can just see the two compass cards I hand painted (or at least a representation of same).. the gold things on the ends of the cabinet are supposed to be lanterns (use your imagination).  Holy cow, my eyes can't even get as close as this macro will... looks better from a foot away..... %%

On to cannons now.  Hoooza! :o

Ok folks,

The STBD side is done and am moving onto the "dark side".  My goal is to finish the upper deck work and be posed to begin masting and rigging come next winter.  Spring is just around the corner and soon I will be closing down inside model work to move out to my shop and begin building real boats for the summer.  I will post a shot of the completed upper deck.. if I make it.  Otherwise, I will resume the build in November.  I'll be checking in to see how you folks are doing from time to time.  Have a great summer and "Fairwinds and Smooth Seas".

Regards,

Dennis :-)

Well, I think I'm still here.  Glad Mayhem is back for sure.  I'm still on project, working on the "dark side"  Port.... deadeyes and rail is in and will continue with that until all cannon are in, then stop for summer.  Summer?  what is that and when is it coming?

Howdy Folks,

Posting final pictures for the season.  Upper gundeck cannon are now in.  Shutting down indoors shop and moving out to outside shop to begin build of a 12ft fishing skiff for a friend as a summer project.  Got the stem milled out of a nice hunk of teak I found.... nice.  Picking up lumber for stern today.  I love the smell of sawdust.  Another boat is born.

Have a great summer folks, I'll be lurking and enjoying the posts and projects.  You folks are doing a "spot-on" job of it.

Fairwinds and smooth seas.

Dennis

Best wishes, enjoy.  I look foreward to seeing more of the Ajax in due course.
