Thanks Carl. I thought she might have been rebuilt by them bulges on the side. I assume they give extra displacement and stability.

They are purely stability sponsons................hollow boxes in effect...........to prevent her turning turtle after her enlargement.......

A very nice looking ship in the beginning - bloody ugly now though  :(( :(( :((

It certainly has looked better. Those sponsons do nothing for it's appearance. The only ships I know of that look half decent after this work has been carried out are Nordic Ferry and Baltic Ferry.

Uglying up - I quite liked this ship (a little graceful) seen in a recent thread, but the other day Colin posted up a link

Now that's a conversion and a half. To be honest, I like it.

There must be a way of building this ship so you could have two models in one.

I'd quite like to see the top deck's detail - but overall there isn't much to catch the eye - a bit too slabby for me. Maybe really because I had been watching a thread with lots of old ships on, and then as soon as I think ' I do like that one' up pops Colin with the conversion.

OH MOTHER!!!!!!!!!

Have you seen the 1:1250 ferries that have been available??????????

Dave - including a couple of Kalakala's!!!!!!!

Ali - time to burn the midnight oil my friend - I doubt that many of these are on the market anymore............and if and when they do appear, very deep pockets will be required!!

Do any of the shipping lines sell mini models like those for publicity purposes and casual collectors on board ships ? They would have to be a wee bit cheaper than the serious collectables shown.

Looks a tad short to me that one Ali????

Got the scale a bit off............

That you bidding or do you already have it? If not you, I might have a punt - but it cannot compare to your offering!!!

I've not got one of them yet. I might have to save my pennies for the Norland model.

I've just paid 105 Euros +p&p for a Queen Mary 2 - it's my Christmas present!

I shall display it with the others....

There were some Chinese made ones for sale on board at around £40 but they were poor quality. Some years ago Norfolkline were selling small models of their new Dover Strait
ships on board which weren't bad but they were not to the usual scale.

That is one nice collection there Colin. I hope to build a display case for mine. The Canberra is my favourite.

Hi Colin - so very nice and in a display cabinet they really look the part  O0 Nice link posted too.

Carl - you varmint - you had me very worried there, but I have seen those Kalakalas before (you might have the pics in the K media folder). Ha, just for a second I thought you had found a large model.

Here's an arty representation I do like

so funny to have gone to all that trouble only to shove it on a piece of ratty scrapwood  :o

Aye Ali - have spotted that one a few times on ebay - gone for top dollar too on the rare occassions they have come up.
They could have chosen to model her before the jumboisation.........did nothing for her looks............but would still have one in my collection  :-)) :-))
They also have a Free Enterprise II - and a nice model it is too  :-))
