I'm afraid I just sprayed Red Oxide straight onto the smooth plastic. I've since experimented with this orrible result and it just crumbles off.

Looks like I'll have to clean it off and start again.  Good job I haven't done the Hull yet.   %)

This is a nice build Ken and there's plenty for a novice like me to learn from following it
Paint is a point I have yet to reach - but I'll sure be asking questions when I do. For now
I'll see how you sort it.

Doesn't look like you should come to me   {-)  {-)  {-)

Seriously, this is a blow as I've worshipped Red Oxide for it's staying power.  I can only assume that spraying outside in winter time is not a good idea.

Hi Ken

Don't want to tell you how to suck lemons but did you lightly roughen up the smooth plastic first?

KEN KEN KEN HOW many time have I got to tell you and you still get it WRONG    <*< <*< <*< <*< <*< <*< <*<JUST listen to your Uncle Stav and you wont go far wrong will you.......I really don't know what I am going to do with you....I think you should go to the corner of the room face the corner and don't come out for at least 2 weeks LOL.

As long as it's not raining or damp spraying outside in a WELL SHELTERED area you will be OK

NOW pin your ears back and LISTEN....

Painting PLASTIC
De grease with panel wipe
RUB DOWN with a fine grit, anything above 800 will be fine
Spray it max of 2 coats and leave 48hrs to dry

I tried telling Kenny the crane wouldn't fit on the deck of Gry Maritha!  O0
Good to see you today in Gloucester, hope you had a good trip back across the Severn. I did run into those rain clouds on the way back up the M5. Dave.  :-))

Now that's what I call a good camera.   :}  Made me look all nautical.    {-) {-)

Yes.  Home safely with my boxed Aziz kit. Cheers for that. I suppose I'll have do another blog soon.  I'm going to try and make this one water-proof.

Great nautical day out in Gloucester Docks. Lovely surroundings if anyone wants to visit.

Cheers

Onwards with the build, we decided the hatch covers were a little weak.

A new set has been cut from plywood and fitted using plastic square beams as supports and hinges with steel nuts and bolts.  The movements are quite smooth and parallel. All we need is the servos to arrive from China  (waiting 4 weeks so far)

The side door was also connected using the plastic and this works quite well by hand. The deck is not secured down yet so it's not squared up.

It was then off to the Bow section to fit the stanchions.  These should have been 7mm plastic but they also proved a little weak.  After all,  there was to be a top rail across them and the way I drive, add a few bumps !.  We made new ones from plywood and shaped them to fit the curvature of the hull.

A thicker rail was epoxied on top and is a bit slow to dry this weather so it's still taped down. The top cabin was  glued into place and the roof left loose until the internals are fitted out.

Here we are at the present

1.  Hatches up

2.  Hatches down

I'm really looking forward to see these move under electricity.   %)

All my stuff's in the garage and this time of year It's a no go area unless I dress up like I'm going to the north pole.
I've got one of those halogen heaters but it's useless unless you're stood right next to it then it melts your skin off so you can't win.

Went into the icebox today to survey the failed epoxy.

I put a separate inquiry on Mayhem about it not going off.   yes,  the cold was too much for it so I've stripped it all off and wiped down as best I could. Here's some pictures which don't really show the sticky mess, but it's sorted now.

The decks were sanded to rough up the surface and cleaned and sprayed with red oxide. I might bring her into the house for the evening to keep her warm.  %)

If this adheres well then I shall attempt the Hull.

Storing her in the house overnight worked wonders with the drying so yesterday I got the big cans out.

I tried a different approach this time by spraying the upper works first. (I was dying to see the blue go one and what it would look like)

Although it doesn't show it, the light grey spray was a faulty can. The gas has almost run out and the paint spit all over the boat in dollops.   {:-{

I spent most of this morning sanding the grey with 400 grit wet n dry and plenty of water. This will have to be re-done again. I dried the mess with my hot air gun and taped her up ready for the bottom spray.

This proved to be lovely paint !!  It's great when you get a good tin with a fine nozzle. The work came out so well that it made my day.    8)

                        :embarrassed:

Thank you 110samec.  I was quite surprised by the pleasant result. Isn't it nice when it goes right. One success can overdo loads of failures. ;)
