Locking great!

How did you do the water?
My grandfather used putty some 50 years ago, still looking fine. But the models where somewhat bigger abt 50cm in length.

Thanks,

Harald, that looks like the POTOSI - five-masted barque!

I put them in acrylic cases these days, glass is too fragile and modern acrylic is much clearer than glass.

Until recently, I made the seas from painted plasticine, but this one is made from painted polystyrene foam and looks much better.

I don't suppose so as it's only 6 1/2 inches long.    But a large one would be OK.

nah not a large one EVERYBODY makes a larger one. I managed to squeeze a motor into a 3 1/2 inch speed boat but it was just on off. not rc. it was just small enough to sail in a saucepan. ok i suppose not a good model though.

i found this ages ago its plantraco rc planes and radio gear.

Interesting link.    It would also be an interesting project to make a small radio controlled ship like LOCHEARN.    I have no doubt I could build one with a motor in it that size, but I have never heard of a tiny R/C receiver and servo that would fit in anything so small - are there such things?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for that - it was quite an eye opener!     Not particularly expensive either.      I can make miniature ships easy enough and dealing with electronics is no problem either as I was in electronics at sea for 30+ years.

heres a pic of the mini boat i made. ive torn the deck off because i wanted the battery out of it but all the mechanicals are in there. just a switch, motor and battery holder. of course theres the coupling and the stern tube with propshaft in it:

its hard to see but i also had to make this 6mm propeller.  due to my rough storage conditions one of the bades snapped off. i made it out of a peice of thin wire, i stripped the wire then using outer sheathing as a hub, i then stuck the blades to that. worked fairly well.

i got some spare parts from a broken helicopter and made these out of them . theres a tiny lipo, a 0.8mm propshaft and sterntube, and a motor. I have no idea how to charge the lipo of even know if it works. i can send you them if you want i got another propshaft and motors too ill salvage them out my other busted chopper.

That is amazing, it would easy fit into LOCHEARN, (if it wasn't solid) but I never realised they made R/C gear so small these days.    Also very pleased to hear from someone else who likes miniatures.     You wouldn't even need a pond for something like that, just a large tray with just an inch of water in it - you have made me think!

you could sail a whole fleet in your cuppa tea  %% pm me if you want the spare propshafts i got. you can have em because i got no use for them, and i think you will do something better with them.

ive been seeing these around a lot and they use those tiny motors and these are fully function. draw back is there the bang bang type throttle and steering controll not linear, but they have a servo and the battery charges off the remote. wouldnt take a genius to break one open and use the components, at least for experiment:
