Dickie toys Bella Luisa
« on: November 28, 2011, 07:11:00 pm »

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of these boats, they appear to have very limited R/C range and speed....They are very inexpensive at the moment and I might purchase one, dump the motor, radio kit etc and fit 2.4 equipment.

I take it they are plastic and not wood?.....Does the plastic look like ummm Plastic?...

Any comments appreciated.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan,

I assume you've seen the movies on youtube, with the 'awkward steering'?

A friend has taken this model apart and replaced everything.
He installed a mini servo, for two rudders, two Speed 280 motors, on 2 mm shafts and 25 mm three bladed props.
A small ESC for both motors, running on 5 cells NiMH 2000mAh.
Nowadays a small Lipo would work too, but you'd have to take 6V motors to handle the 7,4V in the long run.

The boat performed decent after the rebuild, so it's doable.

Regards, Jan.

Yes you can convert one.But is it worth it? Most of what you buy is Toy standard. So all youre getting at the end is a plastic hull.If someone gives you one of these then Ok.But id not buy new.John.
