HMS P1041 "Gay Archer" model?

Hi - very new to this forum - and indeed to boat modelling - but this vessel would surely make a great model for someone experienced?

I know the owner, Paul Childs,  who kindly showed me around it, down at Watchet Harbour, in Somerset in 2010.

It was still "work in progress" for Paul, who had recently replaced the 3 petrol engines with just a pair of Detroit diesels, but he was telling me
that the drive gearboxes, I guess you would call them, that transfer the forward-facing engines output 180 deg to the prop shafts, were not up to the full torque from the diesels
 so performance was severly limited at that time.

He was, however, quite positive about it, as he had traced a sunken "Gay" class somewhere, and was planning to have the drives salvaged to use on the "Archer", figuring that
they would be packed internally with grease, so should be in good condition!!

Paul is such an interesting guy - at the same time as restoring the "Archer", he has been restoring a Percival Piston Provost to airworthy condition - this is Paul running the engine
for the first time in over 30 years ( I'm the white-haired geezer in blue overalls looking for oil leaks )!!

Hope this is of interest to somebody.   {:-{

Hi Mike

I know Paul's uncle, Ted Childs, who is a member of my local model boat club at Wicksteed Park.  He is making a 1/16 scale model of Gay Archer and I think it's about 70% complete.  Ted actually served on Gay Archer in the fifties and was on board when her stern sank in harbour.  On another note it was Ted who rang my dad asking on behalf of Paul regarding gearboxes from a RAF RTTL that was being scrapped at Gibraltar because we had reference info on the gearbox ratios.
