Gun cargo.

The Arrochar was tasked to ship this gun and mounting from Plymouth to Rosyth, as the refit for HMS York was being held up in Rosyth because of late finish by Devonport. The original idea was heavy road transport to Exeter airport then heavy lift helicopter to somewhere in the Midlands, then another helicopter lift to Edinborough and then to Rosyth by road, the only problem was if everything connected it would take 5 days and £500k. Arrochar did it in about 40 hours for £6. They still sold the Arrochar for scrap as uneconomical.

Yeah well, i left 3 x 0's out, should have been £6000, the Arrochar was costed at £3000 a day which them was cheap compared to outside charter in's. My excuse was my dog was doing its best to get me to take it out for a walk.

She was built as the HMAV St George.
